Basra Integrity Committee Chief Urges Ratification of Anti-Corruption Strategy

Basra: The head of the Integrity Committee in the Basra Provincial Council, Baydaa al-Nahi, has called on the Prime Minister to ratify the National Anti-Corruption Strategy 2025-2030. The strategy is designed to combat corruption through modern measures and provides a clear roadmap for addressing and reducing its impact.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Nahi also urged the Council of Representatives to pass laws that impose penalties proportionate to the scale of corruption and the crimes committed. She noted that the current penalties do not adequately reflect the damage caused by corruption, especially to the Iraqi economy and public funds.

In her statement, al-Nahi emphasized the need to consider reinstating the offices of inspectors general in ministries and to enhance the technical capabilities of the Integrity Commission’s investigators. This would strengthen their ability to handle integrity cases across various ministries and government institutions.

Al-Nahi further highlighted the importance of preparing and developing the staff of the Financial Control Bureau. By enhancing their ability to accurately detect and diagnose financial irregularities, the bureau could contribute to improved oversight, protection of public funds, and a reduction in corruption.
