Panamanian Tanker Ship Damaged in Iraqi Waters


Basra: A ship carrying fuel oil sustained damage within Iraqi territorial waters. The Ministry of Transport clarified today that at 5:30 AM, a tanker ship, designated for transporting fuel oil and flying the flag of the Republic of Panama, sustained damage from an unknown source while within Iraqi territorial waters. The damage resulted in material damage to the ship’s hull.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry confirmed in a statement that “the incident did not result in any casualties or injuries among the ship’s crew, nor did it cause any leakage of its cargo into the water.” It added that immediately after the incident, the relevant security, official, and maritime authorities began taking the necessary precautionary measures. The ship was isolated and placed under continuous monitoring, and the surrounding area was monitored to ensure there were no fuel leaks, other damages, or any indicators that could pose a threat to navigational safety or the marine environment.



The relevant authorities are investigating the circumstances of the incident and working to determine the source and cause of the damage. The Ministry of Transport will announce any updates or confirmed information in due course.
