Tripoli: The Charg© d’Affaires at the Iraqi Embassy in Libya, Ahmed Al-Sahhaf, announced that the embassy is actively working to ensure the voluntary and safe return of Iraqis in Libya, with 388 Iraqi migrants already repatriated.

According to Iraqi News Agency, Al-Sahhaf stated that the embassy has received information about the presence of undocumented Iraqi migrants in Tajoura, east of Tripoli. He emphasized that high-level coordination is ongoing with the relevant security agencies of the Government of National Unity in Tripoli to locate these individuals and provide necessary protection as part of preparations for their voluntary return to Iraq.

Al-Sahhaf highlighted that the migrants are located in a vast agricultural region near the sea, where human smuggling and trafficking networks exploit the conditions to lure and detain migrants. The embassy has been making substantial efforts and has successfully facilitated the return of 388 migrants in recent months, despite complex circumstances surrounding the repatriation process.

He further stressed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Baghdad, along with the Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq and its ministries of interior and foreign relations, continue to work collaboratively with the embassy. Their efforts are focused on encouraging voluntary and safe returns by providing travel tickets and arranging reception at Erbil International Airport.

Al-Sahhaf also renewed his warning to families about the dangers of cooperating with smuggling and human trafficking networks, citing the direct threat to the security and safety of young migrants and the potential for stringent legal action by Tripoli authorities.
