Baghdad: The Integrity Committee of the Basra Provincial Council announced an investigation into the ammonia gas leak at the General Company for Fertilizer Industries in Khor Al-Zubair, which resulted in the death of two workers and injuries to several others.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Committee Chairwoman, Baidaa Al-Nahi, confirmed in a statement that the investigation will include the company’s management and the investor to determine the circumstances and causes of the incident, and to verify compliance with occupational safety procedures and worker protection standards at the work site.

She stressed the necessity of uncovering the circumstances of the incident, identifying those responsible, and holding accountable anyone found to be negligent or responsible for the accident, emphasizing that the lives and safety of workers are not a matter for negligence or carelessness.
