Baku: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is set to visit Azerbaijan on September 15 and 16 to engage in discussions aimed at bolstering bilateral relations and enhancing joint cooperation between the two nations. During his visit, Fidan will hold bilateral talks with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and meet with Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov. He will also have an audience with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the agenda for Fidan’s talks will include an evaluation of the current stage of Turkish-Azerbaijani relations, which both countries describe as strategic. A key focus will be on accelerating efforts to reach the target of $15 billion in total trade volume, a goal set by the presidents of Turkey and Azerbaijan.
The discussions will also address collaborative projects in the energy and transportation sectors and assess ongoing cooperation in defense industries, security, and military affairs. Additionally, the talks will explore existing cooperation within multilateral platforms, notably the Turkic States Cooperation Organization (TDT).
Fidan’s visit will encompass consultations on the upcoming 13th Summit of the Turkic-Speaking States Cooperation and the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP31), both of which Turkey will host soon.
In his meetings, Fidan will exchange views on regional and international developments, highlighting the opportunity to establish peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia. He will underscore Turkey’s dedication to fostering good neighborly relations and acknowledge positive developments achieved so far.
Fidan will also reiterate Turkey’s backing for infrastructure improvements in Azerbaijan’s Nagorno-Karabakh region, activation of energy and trade lines, and enhancement of connectivity.
Turkey was the first nation to recognize Azerbaijan’s independence on November 9, 1991, following its declaration on August 30, 1991. The relationship between Turkey and Azerbaijan is based on shared historical, humanitarian, and cultural ties.
