Baku: Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov confirmed that his country is working with Turkey on promising projects that will extend for decades to come.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Bayramov stated at a joint press conference with his Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan, that Azerbaijan and Turkey are coordinating on new projects with significant potential over the next several decades.
Bayramov discussed the progress of alternative energy initiatives, highlighting plans to transport green energy from Azerbaijan to Europe via the Black Sea, with Turkey playing a key role in this project. He mentioned the development of new energy lines along the route connecting Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey, and Bulgaria, as well as another line linking the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic to Turkey.
He stated that these projects will create new opportunities for transporting alternative energy through Turkey to both local and European markets. Additionally, Bayramov expressed support for Turkey’s hosting of the Conference of the Parties to the Climate Agreement (COP31) and confirmed the participation of the Azerbaijani delegation in the conference scheduled for November in Antalya.
The strategic significance of the Zangezur Corridor was also emphasized by Bayramov, describing it as a crucial link within the “Middle Corridor” that connects Azerbaijan to Turkey, Europe, the Middle East, and Central Asia. He reported that the construction progress on roads leading to the Armenian border within the corridor is at 95%, with railway lines at 75%, and plans to complete both by the first half of 2027.
Bayramov highlighted the existence of a 190-kilometer railway in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic from the Soviet era, which has been inactive for three decades and is now being restored. He noted that the remaining 42-kilometer section within Armenian territory is the missing component, with ongoing negotiations between the United States and Armenia.
He concluded by stating that the completion of the Zangezur Corridor will secure a direct connection between Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan via Armenia, enhancing links to Turkey, Europe, and Central Asia.
