Baghdad: Baghdad Mayor Ammar Musa Kadhim discussed, on Monday, prospects for cooperation with two French companies in the transport, water, and sanitation sectors. The discussions also covered the preparation of a master plan for Baghdad in these areas, aiming to establish an integrated vision for developing the capital’s infrastructure and essential services, according to a statement by the Mayoralty, received by the Iraqi News Agency – INA.
According to Iraqi News Agency, the statement noted that “as part of the delegation accompanying Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi during his official visit to France, Baghdad Mayor Ammar Musa Kadhim held meetings with the French companies SYSTRA and SUEZ.” The meetings aimed “to explore cooperation prospects and leverage French expertise in several service and development sectors prioritized for Baghdad, attended by a representative of the Iraqi Embassy in Paris and the Assistant Commercial Attach©.”
During the first meeting with SYSTRA, a company specializing in the transport sector, “discussions focused on the current state of Baghdad’s comprehensive transport system and the challenges facing the sector. Opportunities for cooperation and utilizing French expertise to develop the transport system in alignment with the capital’s needs and urban future were also addressed.”
The statement added, “The meeting with SUEZ covered several infrastructure files, particularly the water and sanitation sectors. Discussions also addressed the preparation of a master plan for Baghdad in these fields, contributing to a comprehensive vision for developing the capital’s infrastructure and essential services.”
“These encounters represent a significant opportunity to open new avenues for cooperation and to leverage the capabilities and expertise of French companies, amidst growing cooperation between Iraq and France, in a manner that supports Baghdad’s plans to develop its infrastructure and enhance the quality of services provided to its residents,” said the Mayor of Baghdad during the meeting.
