Baghdad: Iraqi government spokesperson Haider Al-Aboudi declared that September 30 signifies a sovereign milestone, setting the stage for Iraq’s transition in its relations with coalition countries towards bilateral ties grounded on mutual respect for sovereignty and shared interests. He emphasized that the Iraqi government is actively working to complete the termination of the coalition’s military mission, adhering to agreed timelines and mechanisms. Al-Aboudi highlighted that Sovereignty Day establishes the groundwork for full state authority and the consolidation of security decisions.

According to Iraqi News Agency, Al-Aboudi articulated that “the date of September 30 represents a sovereign milestone for the Iraqi state, rooted in official understandings and commitments.” He noted that the government is pursuing a clear strategy in terms of mechanisms and procedures to achieve this transition, treating it as a national constant that lays the foundation for evolving relations with international coalition countries into bilateral relationships that respect Iraq’s sovereignty and promote mutual interests.

Al-Aboudi elaborated on Iraq’s use of constitutional, political, and diplomatic tools, along with its capability to manage national security through its institutions and armed forces. He affirmed that the government is progressing with the planned termination of the coalition’s military mission as per the agreed timelines and mechanisms, ensuring no deviation from Iraq’s sovereign will.

He further pointed out that since taking office, the Prime Minister has prioritized Iraq’s sovereignty within his executive agenda, adopting Sovereignty Day to symbolize Iraq’s transition into a new phase. This phase is characterized by the state’s sovereignty and full authority over its territory, where security decisions are unified and the instruments of power are confined to constitutional and legal institutions. Therefore, September 30 is seen as a national day representing the realization of sovereignty for the state and all Iraqis.

Al-Aboudi emphasized that the Iraqi government is committed to reinforcing the connection between sovereignty, stability, and trust in state institutions.
