Baghdad: The Ministry of Interior announced on Friday the arrest of two individuals accused of trafficking in spy cameras and forging official documents in Baghdad.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry stated in a press release: “As part of ongoing intelligence efforts to pursue outlaws and eliminate the sources of organized crime, and based on precise intelligence information monitored by detachments of the Intelligence Agency specializing in combating organized crime in Baghdad/Rusafa district, a social media site promoting the sale of spy cameras (whose circulation is prohibited) was uncovered.”

The statement added: “An intelligence and technical team was formed and was able to locate the owners of the site (two suspects) and arrest them in the act. A number of prohibited cameras were seized from their possession, as well as the vehicle they were using for this purpose.”

In a separate operation carried out by agency detachments, an individual was arrested in the act of forging official documents. Forged documents and records purporting to be official documents issued by government departments and official bodies were found in his possession. All items related to the crime (the tools used in the forgery operations) were also seized.

Legal procedures were initiated against the accused after their confessions were recorded, in preparation for their appearance before the judiciary.
