Washington:US President Donald Trump announced on Monday his expectation of a swift victory for the United States in its ongoing conflict with Iran.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Trump stated that Washington would not permit Tehran to possess a nuclear weapon. He predicted a stabilization of oil prices to previous levels after the war concludes and oil starts flowing through the Strait of Hormuz again.

Trump mentioned the possibility of launching new strikes against Iran before the midterm elections, although he did not confirm it as a current option. He also anticipates further discussions with Iran this week, despite having dismissed Tehran’s latest proposal. Trump remarked, “They want to reach a deal, but it is not the deal I want to make; Iran has overestimated its position.”

Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi expressed on Sunday that Iran is willing to reopen the Strait of Hormuz if the United States takes specific actions. He noted that Iran’s demands are longstanding and pertain to rights that Tehran insists must be upheld.
