Baghdad:The Supreme Judicial Council has disclosed statistics concerning human trafficking crimes, violations of the Foreigners’ Residency Law, and recorded suicide cases in various courts during August 2026.
According to Iraqi News Agency, the Courts of Appeal reported 183 human trafficking cases. The Basra Court of Appeal recorded the highest number with 67 cases, followed by the Baghdad/Al-Karkh Court of Appeal with 40 cases, and the Diyala Court of Appeal with 12 cases. Notably, the Courts of Appeal in Nineveh, Babylon, Dhi Qar, and Al-Muthanna reported no human trafficking cases.
In matters concerning the Foreigners’ Residency Law violations, 307 cases were recorded. The Baghdad/Al-Rusafa Court of Appeal had the most with 204 cases, followed by the Baghdad/Al-Karkh Court of Appeal with 35 cases, and the Wasit Court of Appeal with 26 cases. Several courts, including those in Basra, Nineveh, Babylon, Dhi Qar, Anbar, Maysan, Al-Muthanna, and Karbala, did not report any violations.
Regarding suicide cases, a total of 10 incidents were recorded. The Nineveh Appeal Court Presidency reported the highest number with five cases, followed by the Diyala Appeal Court Presidency with two cases. Single cases were noted in the courts of Al-Rusafa, Najaf, and Al-Qadisiyah.
