Basra: The Supreme Judicial Council reported the registration of 183 human trafficking cases during August.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the appellate courts have documented these cases with the Basra Court of Appeal registering the highest number at 67. The Baghdad/Al-Karkh Court of Appeal followed with 40 cases, and the Diyala Court of Appeal recorded 12 cases. Notably, the appellate courts of Nineveh, Babylon, Dhi Qar, and Al-Muthanna did not report any human trafficking cases.
In addition, 307 cases of violations of the Foreigners’ Residence Law No. 76 of 2017 were recorded. The Baghdad/Al-Rusafa Court of Appeal led with 204 cases, while the Baghdad/Al-Karkh Court of Appeal reported 35 cases, and the Wasit Court of Appeal documented 26 cases. No cases were reported by the appellate courts in Basra, Nineveh, Babylon, Dhi Qar, Anbar, Maysan, Al-Muthanna, and Karbala.
Moreover, 10 suicide incidents were reported, with the Nineveh Court of Appeal documenting the highest number at 5. The Diyala Court of Appeal reported 2 cases, and single cases were noted by the courts in Al-Rusafa, Najaf, and Al-Qadisiyah.
