Increase in Weapons Registration Among Citizens

Baghdad:According to Iraqi News Agency, Lieutenant General Saad Maan, head of the Security Media Cell at the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, announced a rise in the number of citizens registering their weapons under the National Weapons Regulation Programme. This increase is seen as a sign of growing trust in government efforts to enhance security and stability, as well as to promote civil peace.

The progress is attributed to the efforts of the Directorate for Weapons Control and Regulation, part of the Ministry of Interior’s Police Affairs Agency. With 449 offices across Iraq, the directorate is working to streamline the registration process and improve communication with the public.

Statistics from October 2 to October 9, 2026, indicate that 10,222 applications were submitted from various police commands in Baghdad and other provinces. This data reflects positive engagement from the community with the weapons regulation initiative.

Lieutenant General Maan emphasized that the increased registration is indicative of a growing awareness about the importance of legal regulation of weapons possession. He commended the cooperation of citizens and the support from different societal segments for these national efforts, which aim to bolster community security, stability, and the rule of law.
