Increase in Weapon Registration Among Citizens Reported

Baghdad:The head of the Security Media Cell at the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Saad Maan, announced an increase in citizens’ turnout to register their weapons under the National Weapons Regulation Programme.

According to Iraqi News Agency, Maan stated that the growing number of registrations reflects increased confidence in government measures aimed at enhancing security and stability and consolidating civil peace.

The progress is attributed to the efforts of the Directorate for Weapons Control and Regulation at the Ministry of Interior’s Police Affairs Agency. With 449 offices across Iraq, they continue to facilitate weapon registration procedures and improve communication with citizens.

Statistics from October 2 to October 9, 2026, indicate that 10,222 applications were submitted by citizens, spanning several police commands in Baghdad and other provinces. This reflects positive societal interaction with the regulation program.

Maan emphasized that the increased turnout indicates a rising awareness of the importance of regulating weapon possession within legal frameworks. He commended the cooperation of citizens and the support from various societal segments for these measures, which contribute to community security, stability, and the rule of law.
