Pakistan Continues Mediation Efforts Between U.S. and Iran Amid Rising Tensions

Dushanbe:Islamabad Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, has confirmed that his country’s mediation efforts between the United States and Iran are ongoing. He emphasized that dialogue and diplomacy are the best approaches to managing regional tensions and achieving sustainable, peaceful solutions.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Dar made these remarks during a meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Heads of Government in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. He stated that Pakistan is actively facilitating communication between the involved parties to de-escalate tensions in the Gulf region and West Asia. Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to resolving conflicts through peaceful means.

This development aligns with reports of a visit to Tehran by Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, General Asim Munir, which is part of broader regional and international diplomatic efforts to revive negotiations between Washington and Tehran, aiming to reduce the risk of military escalation.

In addition, the Pakistani Foreign Minister advocated for strengthening regional cooperation within the SCO framework, expanding international partnerships, and enhancing mechanisms for trade settlements in local currencies. He also highlighted the importance of energy security and the smooth flow of trade corridors. Additionally, he announced Pakistan’s intention to host the SCO summit of heads of state in Islamabad in August 2027.

Pakistan’s proactive diplomatic engagements are occurring amidst intensified efforts to contain tensions between the U.S. and Iran, amid concerns about the potential impact of any new escalation on regional stability. By maintaining contact with the relevant parties, Islamabad aims to foster dialogue, bridge differences, and create conditions for a political settlement to reduce tensions and prevent further regional crises.
