Cairo:Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has stated that any military support from Egypt to Saudi Arabia will be strictly limited to defending its territory and borders, without extending to offensive actions such as launching attacks on Yemen.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Sisi made these remarks during a session titled ‘National Security and Citizen Security’ on the third day of the Egypt Forum 2026. He highlighted the security of the Gulf states as an essential component of Arab and Egyptian national security.

Furthermore, Sisi emphasized that Egypt’s military efforts would focus solely on defense, not only for Saudi Arabia but also for any Arab country requesting assistance from Cairo. He reiterated that Egyptian involvement would be confined to defensive operations and would not include offensive measures beyond defending the respective countries.

The Egyptian president also noted the indivisibility of Arab national security, asserting that the stability of Gulf states is directly linked to Egypt’s security. He added that supporting Saudi Arabia is part of a collective Arab security framework and does not authorize attacks on other countries.

Sisi addressed regional challenges, advocating for the restoration of stability in crisis-hit Arab nations like Sudan, Libya, and Somalia. He emphasized the importance of preserving national unity and state institutions as fundamental to regional security.

Additionally, Sisi reiterated the guiding principles of Egypt’s foreign policy since 2014, which include non-interference in other countries’ internal affairs, rejection of conspiracies, and maintaining national unity and state institutions. He also stressed the significance of cooperation in reconstruction and development and balanced international relations.

These remarks come amid rising regional tensions and discussions about Egypt’s potential military role in supporting Saudi Arabia. The topic has been debated in the Egyptian parliament, with a proposal to authorize the president to take necessary measures to support Saudi Arabia, demonstrate solidarity, and defend its territory against external threats in coordination with the Kingdom.
