Ankara:The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs commemorated the 81st anniversary of the United Nations’ founding, reiterating Ankara’s dedication to the international organization. The Ministry highlighted its ongoing efforts to advance peace, security, development, and human rights, aiming for a future that is fairer, more peaceful, and more prosperous.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry’s message was shared on the platform “X” (formerly Twitter) in celebration of United Nations Day, observed annually on October 24. The statement read “We celebrate the 81st anniversary of the founding of the United Nations! We support the UN, which embodies humanity’s shared aspiration to foster peace, security, development, and human rights. We remain firmly committed to our efforts within the organization, driven by the belief that a fairer, more peaceful, and more prosperous future is attainable.”
Turkey, as one of the 51 founding member states of the United Nations, places significant importance on this occasion. The UN Charter, which Turkey helped establish, came into effect on October 24, 1945. Ankara’s renewed support for the UN coincides with its advocacy for reforming the UN system, particularly the UN Security Council. This reform aims to enhance the council’s ability to address international crises and ensure greater justice and representation in the global order. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s slogan, “The world is bigger than five,” is a prominent call for reconsidering the structure of the UN Security Council.
