Baghdad: A family outing at Al-Zawraa Park in central Baghdad turned into a tragic accident Monday evening when three people, including a child and a husband and wife, drowned in the park’s lake.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, eyewitnesses and local sources reported that the accident began when the child fell into the lake. Her parents attempted to rescue her, but the rescue effort ended in the drowning deaths of all three.
Social media platforms initially reported the death of a child after she fell into the lake, but it was later confirmed that her parents, the husband and wife, also drowned while trying to save her.
The relationship of the child to the couple has not yet been officially confirmed, as a security statement indicated that it was unknown whether she was their daughter.
The accident occurred Monday evening at Al-Zawraa Park lake in central Baghdad. Security forces cordoned off the area and launched an investigation to determine the circumstances and details of the incident.
