Activist and Journalist Mustafa Al-Mayahi Released on Bail in Basra

Basra: The Human Rights Office in Basra announced today the release of activist and journalist Mustafa Al-Mayahi on bail, following a complaint filed against him by the Border Ports Authority.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Office Director Mahdi Al-Tamimi stated that the office visited Al-Mayahi at the Al-Ribat detention center. Al-Tamimi noted that the office, in coordination with the Human Rights Department of the Ministry of Interior, had been actively involved in monitoring the circumstances surrounding Al-Mayahi’s arrest.

He further elaborated that the Publications Court decided to grant bail to Al-Mayahi after numerous demands and appeals were made by tribes, citizens, journalists, and activists advocating for his release.

Al-Tamimi mentioned that Al-Mayahi’s detention was initially ordered by the court to facilitate the completion of investigative procedures and to record his statement concerning content he had published on social media. This content reportedly addressed the operational mechanisms at the Shalamja border crossing.
