Jakarta:Accourding to National Iraqi News Agency, the Director General of the General Company for Airports and Air Navigation, Captain Ihab Saad, has announced a notable 31% increase in civilian air traffic over Iraqi airspace. This rise follows the resolution of restricted air zones, which were lifted on September 18, 2026.
The Ministry of Transport reported that the number of aircraft transiting Iraqi airspace has grown significantly compared to the period before the reopening of these zones to civilian flights. The increase in air traffic has surpassed the growth rates recorded in the initial days following the lifting of restrictions.
Captain Saad highlighted that reopening these airspace zones to civilian use has enhanced the management flexibility of Iraqi airspace. This change provides airlines with a broader range of options for flight paths, supporting the smooth flow of air traffic.
Saad also noted that air traffic indicators are influenced by various operational factors and regional conditions. Despite these variables, current data shows a positive trend in the transit of air traffic through Iraqi airspace.
