Baghdad: The government spokesperson Haider Al-Aboudi stated on Monday that ensuring all weapons are under state control is a sovereign matter for Iraq, free from any external influences. He also clarified that the Cabinet has not made any decision to remove zeros from the Iraqi currency.
According to Iraqi News Agency, Al-Aboudi, during an interview with Al-Iraqiya News Channel, mentioned that investigations are underway regarding reports of a potential threat against the head of the Supreme Judicial Council. He highlighted the prime minister’s focus on strengthening the air defense system, with necessary procedural and financial frameworks already established.
Al-Aboudi emphasized that the international coalition is expediting its processes to conclude its mission in Iraq by the end of next September. He reiterated that the initiative to confine weapons solely to state control is a critical aspect of maintaining Iraqi sovereignty and has shielded the nation from severe consequences, underscoring the gover
nment’s commitment to fully realizing Iraq’s sovereign rights.
He further explained that Iraq risked facing international isolation concerning the weapons control issue, and the government’s strategic decisions aim to protect the Iraqi populace from further adverse impacts. Al-Aboudi announced plans to restructure and rename all units within the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), and confirmed that the arrest of Abbas Hussein Al-Yaqoubi was executed under a judicial warrant.
On the currency issue, Al-Aboudi made it clear that neither the Cabinet nor the Central Bank has resolved to remove zeros from the currency, pointing out that such a move would require legislation by the Council of Representatives.
