Baghdad: The leader of the National Wisdom Movement, Ammar al-Hakim, condemned the targeting of Baghdad Provincial Council member Safaa al-Hijazi al-Mashhadani, urging security forces to pursue the perpetrators.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Hakim expressed his disapproval of the attack in a formal statement, labeling it a “treacherous act.” He emphasized the necessity for the security services to track down those responsible and ensure they face justice. Al-Hakim extended his condolences, wishing mercy upon al-Hijazi and solace for his family.
The assassination occurred in Baghdad, where a sticky bomb attached to al-Hijazi’s vehicle exploded as he traveled through Tarmiyah, a northern district of the capital. Al-Hijazi was not only a council member but also a candidate in the upcoming House of Representatives elections.
