Baghdad: Nouri al-Maliki, head of the State of Law Coalition, announced that the Coordination Framework has established a committee tasked with developing mechanisms to restrict weapons to the state. This initiative will be carried out in coordination with the government and is set to commence soon.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement from al-Maliki’s media office detailed that he met with Joshua Harris, the Charg© d’Affaires of the US Embassy in Iraq. The meeting focused on strengthening Iraqi-US relations in line with the Strategic Framework Agreement, emphasizing common interests and Iraq’s sovereignty. Discussions also covered the government’s ongoing efforts to limit weapon access to state control.
Al-Maliki highlighted the importance of addressing the weapon restriction issue through dialogue and consensus, ensuring a unified national stance that upholds Iraq’s security and stability. He reiterated that the state and its constitutional institutions should be the sole authorities in managing security and military affairs.
Joshua Harris commended al-Maliki for his political influence and contributions toward political stability and understanding. He expressed appreciation for al-Maliki’s support of the government’s national initiatives and the bolstering of state institutions. Harris underscored the need for sustained cooperation between Iraq and the United States to benefit the Iraqi people and nation.
