Al-Mustansiriya University Embarks on Strategic Project to Become Cultural Tourist Hub

Baghdad: Al-Mustansiriya University has been designated as a tourist and cultural destination within a pioneering strategic project. Al-Mustansiriya University announced the launch of a strategic project aimed at establishing the university as a comprehensive tourist and cultural destination, leveraging its historical and cultural heritage to enhance its academic and community presence.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, University President Safaa Taqi Al-Issawi confirmed in a statement that this development is the culmination of a comprehensive scientific study approved by the deans of the Colleges of Tourism and Archaeology, and supported and guided by the Scientific Supervision and Evaluation Authority at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. This step aims to capitalize on the university’s distinctive historical and cultural assets and present them in a way that meets the demands of contemporary cultural tourism.

He added that Al-Mustansiriya, with its rich scientific and historical heritage, seeks through this project to re-present its cultural memory in a way that connects the authenticity of the past with the aspirations of the future, and strengthens its position as a scientific, cultural, and civilizational beacon in Iraq.

The university president stated that the project represents a pivotal moment in the university’s journey to expand its leading role. He explained that the vision extends beyond tourism, aiming to establish a cultural and interactive platform that combines academic rigor with cultural openness, enabling the university to play a broader role in the cultural and social landscape.

As part of the project, the university is preparing to launch the Al-Mustansiriya Cultural Season, a recurring platform hosting intellectual, historical, and literary evenings and events. This will open the university’s spaces to academic, cultural, and community leaders, as well as diplomatic missions, contributing to enhanced interaction between the university and its local and international environment, and solidifying its presence as a scientific, cultural, and civilizational destination.
