Tripoli: The Charg© d’Affaires of the Iraqi Embassy in Libya, Ahmed Al-Sahaf, announced that the Embassy successfully facilitated the return of 25 Iraqi migrants who had entered Libya illegally.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Sahaf noted that the migrants’ return was achieved before a Turkish Airlines flight departed from Mitiga International Airport in Tripoli, bound for Erbil Airport. This effort was part of the Embassy’s regular implementation of the voluntary return program, following directives from Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein.

Al-Sahaf reported that since the reopening of the Embassy, around 150 migrants have been repatriated. He highlighted the Embassy’s role in providing essential supplies such as food and medicine and ensuring migrants maintained regular contact with their families.

Previously, Al-Sahhaf had stated that the Embassy was actively coordinating with relevant Libyan authorities, particularly the center for combating illegal immigration in eastern Tripoli, to address the issue of illegal migration.

The Embassy has consistently warned against the dangers of human trafficking and smuggling networks involving young Iraqis. Al-Sahhaf mentioned ongoing efforts to repatriate an additional 12 migrants located in Misrata Governorate, 250 km from Tripoli. Consular staff visited these individuals on November 4th to facilitate their voluntary return procedures.
