Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani met with Mohammed Al-Hassan, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, to discuss the cooperation trajectory between Iraq and the international organization. The talks also covered regional situations and key topics for discussion at the forthcoming 34th Arab Summit in Baghdad.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement from Al-Sudani’s office emphasized the critical role of the United Nations mission in Iraq and the Special Representative’s contributions. The Prime Minister underscored Iraq’s dedication to sustained coordination with the UN and highlighted the necessity for enhanced dialogue in the region to foster sustainable development opportunities.

During the meeting, Al-Hassan presented a letter from UN Secretary-General Ant³nio Guterres, commending Iraq’s swift actions to repatriate citizens from Al-Hol and Al-Roj camps and detention sites in Syria. The letter stressed the importance of resource allocation for rehabilitation, integration, and accountability, adhering to international laws and standards. Al-Hassan assured that UN offices would maintain close cooperation with Iraqi authorities to ensure the safe return and reintegration of Iraqi citizens.
