Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani stressed the importance of expanding partnerships between Iraqi banks and J.P. Morgan.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement from his media office revealed that Prime Minister al-Sudani received a delegation from J.P. Morgan, led by the bank’s Deputy Director, Daniel Zeljko. This meeting took place on the sidelines of the Iraqi Banking Sector Reform Conference held in Baghdad.
During their discussions, they focused on enhancing cooperation in the financial and banking sectors, with an emphasis on the bank’s involvement in financing investment projects. They also explored mechanisms for securing credits and financial transfers to ensure their delivery to beneficiaries in Europe and the United States. These efforts aim to enhance services provided to Iraqi traders and importers.
Al-Sudani underscored the importance of expanding partnerships between Iraqi banks and J.P. Morgan, and highlighted the government’s readiness to provide support to strengthen this relationship.
In response, the J.P. Morgan delegation expressed its willingness to increase cooperation with Iraq. They indicated plans to expand the number of correspondent accounts for Iraqi banks and expressed readiness to finance investment projects directly or through partner financial institutions.
