Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani received a group of Iraqi artists participating in the “Here is Iraq” festival, held in the capital, Baghdad, on the occasion of Iraq’s National Day. Al-Sudani welcomed the attendees, highlighting the importance of the arts and their impact on people’s lives, strengthening national identity, instilling determination and resolve among people, and shaping public opinion.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Prime Minister emphasized that Iraq is rich in artists who have had a cultural, social, and political influence, as educated artists represent the conscience and voice of society. He referred to the era of the dictatorial regime, which exerted pressure on the artistic community and intimidated the artistic and cultural scene. This is no longer the case thanks to the freedom provided by the democratic system in Iraq today.
He further emphasized the importance of investing in the arts in all its forms to reflect Iraq’s image and document the heroism of its people. The festival serves as a platform to celebrate the contributions of Iraqi artists and the progress made in fostering artistic freedom in the country.
