Baghdad: Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi affirmed on Monday that the government is committed to combating corruption and will show no leniency or favoritism towards corrupt individuals. He also stressed the importance of enacting the necessary legislation to complete the government program, including the law establishing the Food and Drug Authority.

According to Iraqi News Agency, the Prime Minister’s Media Office stated that “Prime Minister Ali Falih al-Zaidi met today, Monday, with the head of the ‘Abshir Ya Iraq’ parliamentary bloc, Ali Hatem al-Hasnawi, and members of the alliance.” The meeting discussed several issues related to the health, electricity, and services sectors, job creation, agriculture, and ways to support these objectives through coordination between the legislative and executive authorities.

The Prime Minister, according to the statement, reiterated his assurances that “the government is committed to its approach of combating corruption, and that there will be no leniency or favoritism towards corrupt individuals,” calling on “members of Parliament to use their full supervisory role in support of the government’s reform program and the fighting corruption.”

Al-Zaidi emphasized “the importance of enacting the necessary laws to complete the government program, including the law establishing the Food and Drug Authority,” affirming that “the government is committed to providing financial allocations for vital and strategic projects that have exceeded 80% completion rates, and to increasing budget allocations to pay farmers their dues.”

For their part, the head and members of the “Abshir Ya Iraq” bloc affirmed “their support and endorsement of the government’s steps in the areas of financial and administrative reform, development, and combating corruption.”
