Ankara Reaffirms Commitment to UN on 81st Anniversary

Ankara:The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs marked the 81st anniversary of the United Nations’ founding, reaffirming Turkey’s support for the international organization. The Ministry emphasized its ongoing dedication to promoting peace, security, development, and human rights, aiming for a future that is fairer and more peaceful.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Turkish Foreign Ministry made a statement on the platform “X” (formerly Twitter) to commemorate United Nations Day, which is celebrated annually on October 24. The Ministry expressed its celebration of the UN’s anniversary and reiterated Turkey’s commitment to the organization’s goals of fostering peace and development.

Turkey, a founding member of the United Nations, attaches special importance to this occasion. The UN Charter came into force on October 24, 1945, and Turkey was among the 51 initial member states. Ankara’s renewal of support comes amid its continued advocacy for UN reform, particularly the UN Security Council, to enhance its ability to handle international crises and ensure a more just and representative global order.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s slogan, “The world is bigger than five,” highlights Ankara’s stance on restructuring the UN Security Council to better reflect global realities.
