Cairo: The Arab League has expressed approval of the United Kingdom’s decision to prohibit trade in goods produced in illegal Israeli settlements. This decision aligns with the intentions of twelve other countries that plan to impose similar trade restrictions on goods from settlements considered illegal under international law.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy stated that these measures represent a positive step toward addressing the illegal Israeli settlement activities and restoring accountability. Fahmy emphasized the importance of these actions in confronting the settlement enterprise, which he believes undermines the two-state solution. He highlighted the severity of the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, citing the establishment of what he describes as an apartheid regime and the encouragement of settler violence against Palestinian civilians by the Israeli government.
The Secretary-General urged all nations supporting international law and the two-state solution to follow the UK’s lead. He stressed that adopting practical measures against the settlement system could compel Israel to reconsider its actions, which have long gone unchallenged.
