Ramla:Baghdad The Arab League has conveyed its strong condemnation regarding the treatment of prisoners from the Gaza Strip detained in the “Rakefit” section of Ramla Prison.
According to Iraqi News Agency, the League of Arab States has issued a statement highlighting the severe human rights violations and systematic repression faced by these prisoners. The statement noted that such violations have resulted in injuries and burns among the inmates.
The Arab League has raised concerns over these actions, labeling them as blatant violations of international humanitarian law, including the four Geneva Conventions of 1949 and their Additional Protocols, as well as the Convention against Torture. The League emphasized that these acts are considered crimes against humanity, urging accountability for those responsible.
The statement also called for an immediate cessation of all repressive practices against Palestinian prisoners, advocating for treatment according to international human rights standards. It emphasized the need for unrestricted access for the International Committee of the Red Cross and independent bodies to Ramla Prison, to document conditions and provide medical care. Furthermore, the League demanded an independent international investigation into these violations, the release of sick and wounded prisoners, and an end to arbitrary detention.
Reaffirming the importance of the Palestinian cause to Arab unity, the League expressed solidarity with Palestinian prisoners and their families. It urged the international community, Human Rights Council, and United Nations General Assembly to protect Palestinian civilians and prisoners and address the issue of impunity.
