Baghdad: The Speaker of the Arab Parliament, Mohammed bin Ahmed Al-Yamahi, has condemned the recent statements by ministers in the Israeli government regarding the displacement of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip. He described these statements as part of a systematic project to uproot Palestinians from their land, liquidate their national cause, and impose a new demographic and geographic reality by force. Al-Yamahi emphasized that such forced displacement constitutes a war crime, a crime against humanity, and ethnic cleansing. He urged for urgent and decisive international action beyond mere statements of condemnation.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Yamahi reaffirmed that Gaza is not a land without a people, and the Palestinian people cannot be displaced or uprooted from their homeland. He expressed the Arab Parliament’s strong opposition to any plans aiming to depopulate the Gaza Strip or forcibly remove its inhabitants under any pretext. He warned that the Israeli government’s continued promotion of these displacement plans, alongside settlement and annexation activities, represents an effort to forcibly redraw the map of Palestine, threatening regional and international peace and security.
The Speaker called on the United Nations Security Council and the international community to fulfill their legal, political, and moral obligations by taking immediate, decisive actions to prevent any plans to displace Palestinians or alter the demographic composition of the occupied territories. Al-Yamahi emphasized that international silence on these issues is not neutrality but rather an encouragement for the occupation to continue its actions, undermining the international legal system. He stated that any attempt to implement these plans would test the international community’s commitment to international law and its ability to stop displacement and ethnic cleansing crimes.
Al-Yamahi reiterated that the Arab Parliament will continue its efforts to expose these plans and mobilize international parliamentary support to defend the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, including their right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital. He underscored that peace should be built on ending occupation and enabling Palestinians to exercise their legitimate national rights, in line with international law.
