Tehran: Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has described recent threats by US President Donald Trump against Iran as a gross violation of international law and the United Nations Charter, urging a clear and firm global condemnation of these provocative statements.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Araghchi expressed his concerns in a letter addressed to his global counterparts. He referenced Trump’s statements made on December 29, 2025, declaring that the threat of using force against Iran contravenes the United Nations Charter, which forbids any threat or use of force against the territorial integrity and national sovereignty of states.

Araghchi highlighted the joint military attack by the United States and Israel against Iran in June 2025, asserting that the recent threats indicate continued ill will by the US in pursuing an illegal and aggressive process, with consequences that will ultimately burden the United States.

Furthermore, Araghchi pointed out Trump’s admission of the US’s direct involvem
ent in the June 2025 attacks on Iranian citizens, infrastructure, and peaceful nuclear facilities, labeling it a gross violation of international law that necessitates individual criminal accountability for the American officials involved.

In his letter, Araghchi criticized the US President’s threats as a sign of double standards and a serious weakening of the non-proliferation regime. He emphasized that the US’s unconditional support for Israel, as the only nuclear weapons holder in West Asia, poses a significant threat to regional and international security.

The Foreign Minister warned of the dangerous consequences of remaining silent on such threats and illegal actions, stressing that such silence emboldens the United States and Israel to continue their aggressive behavior, directly threatening global peace and security.

Araghchi concluded by affirming Iran’s undeniable right to self-defense under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter and stated that Iran would respond decisively to any aggression.

Additionally, the Iranian Foreign Ministry has expressed its strong protest against the US President’s statements and threats in correspondences to the UN Secretary-General, the President of the UN Security Council, and the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
