Jazan: An oil refinery belonging to Saudi Aramco in the Saudi city of Jazan was attacked just one month after a separate attack temporarily halted some production at the same facility. According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Financial Times, as reported by RT, citing two informed sources, stated that the Jazan oil refinery, owned by Saudi Aramco, the world’s largest oil company, was attacked on Monday, and damage assessment is currently underway.

One source told the newspaper that the latest attack was similar in scale to last month’s attack. Saudi Aramco did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The Houthis have not yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

Jazan is the closest industrial city in Saudi Arabia to the Yemeni border and has been targeted by the Houthis several times in the past. The city of Jazan houses an oil refinery with a production capacity of 400,000 barrels per day, one of the largest refineries in the country, along with associated factories and energy infrastructure.

The Houthis in Yemen announced that they targeted an Aramco refinery in the Jazan region of southwestern Saudi Arabia with several drones on August 18th. Prior to that, on August 13th, the refinery was targeted with two drones, following other attacks that caused damage and a temporary shutdown.

According to data collected by Kpler, no petroleum products were shipped from Jazan in August.
