Baghdad: The Mayor of Baghdad, Ammar Moussa Kadhim, conducted a field visit to inspect the progress of construction work on the Antar Square overpass project, a significant initiative by the Baghdad Municipality aimed at developing the road network and alleviating traffic congestion in the capital. He emphasized the ongoing accelerated pace of work to ensure the project meets the specified specifications and timelines.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement from the Municipality highlighted the Mayor’s remarks during the visit, where he affirmed the importance of the Antar Square overpass. The overpass is one of the largest being constructed by the Baghdad Municipality, with funding included under the Emergency Support Law. The necessary financial allocations and cash flow have been secured, enabling the implementing company to continue its work without interruption.
Mayor Kadhim noted the relentless efforts being made around the clock to expedite the project’s completion. He remarked that the overpass would feature a distinctive design, setting it apart from other structures in Baghdad. The project also includes the construction of an underground lane that will connect Antar Square and Al-Dalal Square, with both squares being restored to their original locations post-completion, thereby preserving the site’s character and improving traffic flow.
The Mayor further emphasized the commitment of the Baghdad Municipality to implementing service and development projects that enhance infrastructure and serve the city’s residents. The statement revealed that the Antar Square overpass project has surpassed 40% completion, with construction progressing rapidly. The overpass will span 1,470 meters and include 334 piers, making it one of the longest overpasses being constructed by the Municipality. This vital project is expected to significantly improve traffic flow and the efficiency of the transportation network in the area.
