Basra: The Basra Oncology Center has clarified the reasons behind the recent surge in patient numbers seen in widely circulated videos and photos on social media, affirming its commitment to continuing services for patients. The center's administration attributed the sudden increase in patients to the large influx of individuals returning from the Arba'een pilgrimage to the shrine of Imam Hussein in Karbala.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the administration explained that many patients had paused their treatments during the pilgrimage, resulting in a significant rise in numbers immediately after the ceremonies ended. Official statistics were shared to highlight the surge and the center's efforts to manage the situation. Specifically, outpatient visits skyrocketed from 107 on Thursday, July 30, 2026, to 281 by 11:00 AM on Sunday, August 9, 2026, totaling 388 visits over two days.

The center reported that its laboratory had received 180 patients for medical examinations by Sunday morning, underscoring the exceptional pressure faced by the medical, nursing, and administrative staff. The administration assured that its team continues to work at full capacity, reaffirming its commitment to providing comprehensive care and services to all visitors.
