Baghdad: The Sadiqun parliamentary bloc announced on Sunday its condemnation of the US-Saudi attacks targeting Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) headquarters and camps in several Iraqi provinces.
According to Iraqi News Agency, the bloc demanded that the US and Saudi ambassadors be summoned and presented with official protest notes and that an urgent complaint be filed with the UN Security Council. The head of the Sadiqun parliamentary bloc, Uday Awad, stated in a press conference held at the Parliament building, attended by members of the bloc and the reporter of the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The Sadiqun parliamentary bloc condemns in the strongest terms the treacherous US-Saudi aggression that targeted PMF headquarters and camps in several Iraqi provinces, resulting in the martyrdom and injury of dozens of Iraqis, as well as widespread material damage, in flagrant violation of Iraq's sovereignty and territorial integrity."
Awad emphasized that targeting the Popular Mobilization Forces is not targeting a separate institution from the state but rather a direct attack on an official military institution that forms part of the Iraqi security apparatus according to Law No. (40) of 2016 and is linked to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. He pointed out that any aggression against PMF headquarters is an aggression against the Iraqi state, its sovereignty, and its institutions and cannot be covered up by any pretext or justification, including what is called self-defense.
The Sadiqun Bloc, while commemorating the sacrifices of the martyrs and saluting the steadfastness of the wounded, affirms that the blood of the martyrs is not just numbers in statements, but a national trust that necessitates a clear stance, decisive measures, and holding those responsible for this aggression accountable.
Awad further stated that the Sadiqun Bloc demands that the Iraqi government take a stance commensurate with the magnitude of the attack by submitting an urgent complaint to the UN Security Council, activating the Arab and Islamic tracks, summoning the US and Saudi ambassadors, and delivering official protest notes to them, in addition to announcing the results of the investigations and the plan to protect Iraqi airspace and facilities. He confirmed that Iraq is not an open arena for settling scores, its sovereignty is not a bargaining chip, and the blood of its martyrs will not be forgotten with silence or statements.
The Sadiqun bloc will continue to exercise its constitutional role in defending Iraq's sovereignty, dignity, and institutions and will take all necessary political, legislative, and legal measures, Awad concluded.
