Basra: The Basra Governorate Police Command has uncovered a network of online betting promoters following the investigation into a young man’s suicide. The investigation, prompted by the tragic incident, revealed a connection between the victim’s financial losses and psychological distress due to his involvement in online games involving financial betting.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Basra Police Chief, Major General Latif Abdul-Ridha Al-Saad, ordered a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the young man’s death. This directive aimed to identify those exploiting young people through online betting schemes. The Basra Criminal Investigation Department conducted an information-gathering operation, discovering that the victim had been enticed by individuals promoting games such as “Zina Live” and “Ludo,” which encouraged financial betting with promises of quick profits.

The investigation further uncovered that the young man’s persistent participation in these games resulted in repeated financial losses and increased psychological distress, ultimately culminating in his suicide. Specialized teams, under the guidance of the Director of the Basra Anti-Crime Department, traced communication channels and accounts linked to the promotion, eventually identifying and locating the individuals responsible.

Upon gathering sufficient evidence, the Basra Anti-Crime teams arrested the suspects and initiated legal proceedings against them. The Basra Governorate Police Command has issued a warning about the dangers of online betting, highlighting its potential to cause financial losses, debt accumulation, and severe psychological issues.

In a cautionary note, the Command urged families to monitor their children’s use of online platforms and games to prevent involvement in activities that promote betting, financial transactions, or promises of quick profits.
