Basra: An awareness workshop focusing on the role of family and government institutions in mitigating the psychological, social, and legal impacts of electronic blackmail was recently held in Basra. The Basra Youth and Sports Directorate, through its Women, Family, and Child Affairs Division, organized the event in collaboration with the Gas Filling and Services Company/Basra Branch and the Women’s Affairs Department of the Basra Police Command.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the workshop brought together various women empowerment officials from Basra’s government institutions. The discussions centered on the significant risks associated with cyber extortion, highlighting its extensive psychological, social, and legal repercussions. The event underscored the necessity for families and government bodies to foster community awareness, aiming to prevent the challenges posed by cyber extortion.

Participants stressed the critical role of disseminating a culture of safe and responsible technology and social media usage. The workshop aimed to empower attendees with knowledge and strategies to combat the growing issue of cyber extortion, ensuring a more informed and protected community.
