Besiktas Edges Past Erzurumspor to Top Turkish Super League

Istanbul: Besiktas defeated Erzurumspor 3-0 on Friday evening in the opening match of the fifth round of the Turkish Super League, temporarily topping the standings after playing one more game than their rivals.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Dusan Vlahovic was absent from the Besiktas lineup after the disciplinary committee upheld his one-match suspension. The home side dominated the match, scoring their goals through Emrehan Topcu, Leandro Trossard, and Ilhan Faqli.

Erzurumspor nearly took the lead in the second minute when Murillo played a through ball to Oh inside the right side of the penalty area, but goalkeeper Ertugrul saved his shot with his feet. Three minutes later, Orkun Kokcu received a pass from Leandro Trossard near the touchline on the left and sent a low cross towards the near post, but Cerny’s shot went just over the crossbar.

Besiktas opened the scoring in the 21st minute from a corner kick taken by captain Orkun from the right. Emrehan Topcu rose to meet the ball at the near post and headed it into the net. Just six minutes later, Trossard doubled the home side’s lead. He surged down the left flank in Erzurumspor’s half, passed to Oh, and continued his run before the South Korean striker played a low cross into the six-yard box, which Trossard tapped in.

Besiktas had a third chance before halftime when Olatan fired a shot from the right side of the penalty area, but goalkeeper Ertugrul made a fine save in the 45th minute. In stoppage time, Oh rose to meet Orkun’s cross from the left inside the six-yard box, but the goalkeeper tipped his header over the bar for a corner.

In the 55th minute, Besiktas thought they had added a third through Vaclav Cerny, but referee Gorgan Hasova disallowed the goal, ruling that the player had committed a foul before the ball crossed the line.

Despite this, Ilhan Faqli managed to score Besiktas’ third goal in the 81st minute, securing a 3-0 victory and temporarily placing the team at the top of the Turkish Super League after playing one more match.
