Baghdad: The body of Brigadier General Hilal Matar Saleh Al-Azzi, who has been recognized as a martyr, was discovered after being missing for twelve years.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the announcement of the recovery was made by Lieutenant General Abdul Amir Al-Shammari, Director of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, who expressed deep sorrow and respect in a press release. Al-Shammari stated, “It is with profound sorrow and grief that we received the news of the recovery of the body of the heroic martyr, Brigadier General Hilal Matar Saleh Al-Azzawi, who was martyred twelve years ago, facing the enemy without turning back, in the battles defending Iraq and confronting terrorist gangs. Today, he returns to his family and comrades after the land of Iraq embraced his pure body.”

He further remarked on the valor and sacrifice demonstrated by Brigadier General Al-Azzi, recalling his brave stance in defending Iraq. Al-Shammari extended condolences to the family, tribe, and comrades of the martyr, acknowledging the significant loss to the military institution that has lost one of its courageous officers.

Emphasizing the enduring legacy of Brigadier General Al-Azzi, Al-Shammari noted that the martyr was a paragon of courage and loyalty, whose name will remain in the annals of Iraq’s martyrs as someone who sacrificed his life for the country’s security and sovereignty.
