Baghdad: The Central Criminal Court has sentenced nine individuals to death for involvement in drug trafficking. This significant ruling comes after a substantial quantity of illegal substances was discovered in their possession.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Supreme Judicial Council revealed that authorities seized 186 kilograms of various narcotic substances from the convicted individuals. These substances included Captagon, Methylamphetamine, and Caffeine, indicating an intent to distribute and sell them among users.
The court's decision was based on the provisions outlined in Article 27/First of the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Law No. 50 of 2017. The ruling also considered the participation articles 47, 48, and 49 of the Penal Code, which further supported the severe sentencing.
