Baghdad: The Child Welfare Authority, operating under the Ministry of Culture and represented by its director, Fatouh Al-Anzi, took part in a consultative meeting organized by the High Commission for Human Rights in collaboration with the Asouda Organization. The session aimed to discuss the necessary legal and practical steps to advance the draft law on protection from domestic violence for approval by the relevant authorities.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting saw participation from a diverse array of entities, including representatives from the Presidency of the Republic, the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, legislative and judicial bodies, various ministries, governmental institutions, and civil society organizations. The central theme of the discussion was the establishment of effective mechanisms to shield family members from all forms of domestic violence, a move seen as pivotal to strengthening family cohesion and ensuring a secure environment for children.

The participants highlighted that addressing domestic violence is a collaborative effort that necessitates the coordinated actions of governmental, legislative, judicial, and security bodies, alongside organizations focused on women and children, and civil society groups. This collaboration is essential for effective prevention and response, victim protection, and holding offenders accountable.

Further discussions at the meeting focused on enhancing reporting and protection systems, offering support to victims, and implementing educational and preventive initiatives. The session concluded with several proposals and recommendations aimed at finalizing the necessary procedures to submit the draft law for approval by the relevant authorities.
