Washington: Communications and Media Commission (CMC) has formally signed the operating license authorizing Starlink to provide services in Iraq.

According to Iraqi News Agency, the CMC announced that the official signing took place in the presence of Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi. CMC Executive President Baligh Abu Kallal signed the license during a ceremony at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in the United States.

The commission indicated that this development marks a significant milestone in enhancing Iraq’s telecommunications sector. It is part of broader efforts to regulate satellite internet services within the country’s legal framework, ensuring digital sovereignty and aligning with global technological advancements.

The entry of Starlink into the Iraqi market is expected to broaden internet service options, particularly in areas needing advanced connectivity solutions. This move will also enhance the investment climate and support Iraq’s ongoing digital transformation initiatives.
