Basra: The Supreme Judicial Council-SJC announced on Sunday that a death sentence had been issued against the killer of an officer serving in the Basra Combating-Crime Directorate.

According to Iraqi News Agency, the SJC media office said in a statement that the Basra Criminal Court issued a death sentence against a convict for murdering a major working in the Basra Combating-Crime Directorate.

The statement added, "The convict killed the victim, Hussein Asaad Abu Risha, with the intent to disrupt security and achieve terrorist objectives. The sentence was issued based on Article 4/1, in reference to Articles 2/1 and 3 of the Counter-Terrorism Law No. 13 of 2005."
