Baghdad: A gang specializing in smuggling unregistered vehicles from Baghdad to the Kurdistan Region has been dismantled. The Diyala Police Command announced the successful operation against the criminal network, which was actively involved in the illicit trade of unregistered vehicles.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Diyala Police Command stated in a press release that the operation was initiated based on precise intelligence received from the directorate’s sources. These insights pointed to a gang engaged in the smuggling and trading of unregistered vehicles. Following this, the necessary judicial approvals were secured, and both investigative and surveillance procedures were intensified.

The press release further explained that after gathering information and tracking the gang members’ movements, a security force was organized to execute a well-planned ambush on the route utilized for smuggling activities. This strategic operation culminated in the arrest of the gang members during the act and the seizure of two unregistered vehicles in their possession.

Additionally, the operation led to the confiscation of documents and records associated with the sales and purchases of several unregistered vehicles previously smuggled. The statement highlighted that the suspects provided initial statements where they admitted to their criminal activities. Official seizure reports were prepared for the confiscated vehicles, evidence, and records, with legal actions initiated against the perpetrators. A parallel investigation form was also prepared to facilitate the completion of legal and judicial procedures.
