Basra: More than 10 Iranian pilgrims were killed and about 44 others were seriously injured early Wednesday morning in a passenger bus accident on the Rumaila Road in Basra Governorate.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the accident occurred due to a tire explosion on the bus, which led to its overturning. Eyewitnesses reported that the tragic event resulted in the death of 10 Iranian pilgrims and caused injuries to more than 44 others. The Basra Health Department responded promptly, announcing the mobilization of its emergency department staff to manage the influx of victims.

The traffic accident, which unfolded between the Rumaila area and the Sidra checkpoint, injured 40 pilgrims who were commemorating the Arbaeen of Imam Hussein. Preliminary statistics indicate several fatalities. The Health Department confirmed in an official statement that the injured and deceased were transported to three hospitals: Al-Zubair Teaching Hospital, the Turkish Hospital, and Al-Faihaa Teaching Hospital.
