Baghdad:The Central Criminal Court has sentenced a drug trafficker to death following the seizure of 85 kilograms of narcotics.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the court issued the death penalty for the individual involved in drug trafficking. The judiciary’s statement revealed that the convicted individual was found with 85 kilograms of narcotics, including 489,000 Captagon pills. These drugs were brought in using a GPS-equipped balloon for trafficking and distribution.

The sentence was handed down under Article 27, Clause First, of the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Law No. 50 of 2017, along with Articles 47, 48, and 49 of the Penal Code.
