Erbil: The Kurdistan Region Presidency in Erbil hosted an official ceremony today, Monday, to announce the comprehensive and complete unification of the Kurdistan Peshmerga forces. The event was held under the patronage and in the presence of Region President Nechirvan Barzani, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, Minister of Peshmerga Affairs Shoresh Ismail, and the commander of the Peshmerga forces.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement from the Region Presidency noted that the ceremony highlighted the key and final steps of the process to restructure and unify the forces under a single umbrella. This move fulfills the commitments of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs and the US Department of Defense (Pentagon)-which set the current month as the deadline for completion-following the full integration of Units 70 and 80 under a unified command-and-control structure encompassing brigades, divisions, and regional commands.

The statement added that the new organizational structure involves dividing the field structure into two commands (Region 1 and Region 2) and forming 11 military divisions-each comprising three brigades-along with two infantry brigades attached to the divisions.
